After spotting her dream job on LinkedIn, Kamo is now living the dream! Not one to rest on her laurels, she’s also pursuing her LLB – all in support of serving partners with administrative excellence.
As the after-sales coordinator for Executive Communities in South Africa, Kamogelo Thlelane manages the customer experience across all three ExCo communities in South Africa: CFO South Africa, CIO South Africa and CHRO South Africa.
She joined Executive Communities eight months ago, so here’s an opportunity to get to know her a little better…
Kamo spotted her dream job on LinkedIn, “and was immediately drawn to the scope of the role”, she says, “although it felt like an ambitious move at the time”.
Fortunately, “ambitious” is not a dirty word in Kamo’s dictionary. For instance, she’s pursuing her LLB while working full-time (she’s in her fourth and final year).
Says Kamo: “While I explored other interests after matriculating, returning to law has allowed me to fulfil a long-term ambition. It has been incredibly rewarding to bridge the gap between my interest in the legal field and its practical application in the professional world. Studying law has improved my critical thinking, attention to detail, and contract awareness.”
Turning skills into support
These skills are crucial when your role is to support C-suite executives. As Kamo says, “Our partners are at the heart of our mission, and their support is what enables our organisation to thrive. I take great pride in being able to support their engagements, knowing that by providing them with high-level administrative excellence, I am contributing to partnerships that drive real impact across the industries we work with.”
Kamo also draws inspiration from her exposure to influential figures from leading organisations. She says hearing their thoughts on leadership first-hand is “a masterclass in itself.” And while she is “genuinely passionate” about her work and the impact she can have, she says her vision is “to continue deepening that expertise while taking on broader responsibilities. Ultimately, I see myself transitioning into a managerial role where I can use my experience to mentor others and lead a team toward the same high standards we're achieving now.”
Kamo’s career has taken her through stints in content writing, a learnership as an administrator in quality assurance at UTI Pharma (now DSV), which pivoted into a front-of-house role in customer service and stakeholder management, and now to Executive Communities.
“Since 2018, I have specialised in sales administration, navigating the complexities of the logistics, distribution, and healthcare sectors. Today, I’m able to draw on that diverse background, as I support and collaborate with the team, ensuring our operations are as seamless as they are professional,” she says.
Love your work
Kamo bubbles over with compliments for Executive Communities. In her own words, “The people I work with [are the best], from day one, the team made me feel completely at home. I value that our culture is built on authenticity, we’ve traded rigid business jargon for genuine, relatable communication.
“The flexibility here is also a standout; it’s not just a policy on paper, but a lived reality that supports a true work-life balance. We work from home most of the time and there is transparency and trust among the team. We manage to have a lot of fun while consistently delivering on our promises to our partners.
“Most importantly, I love being part of a team that pauses to celebrate every win, no matter how small.”
Kamo is passionate about learning, and says that here, too, ExCo is an excellent fit. “I have always heard people say ‘team work makes the dream work’, but here at Executive Communities I have seen it first-hand. My greatest takeaway has been the tangible power of collective effort. I have learnt that we all need to pull our weight for us to reach targets and goals regardless of the departments we are in.”
Time to relax!
Outside of work and studies, Kamo prioritises quality time with family and friends, because they are her primary source of inspiration and balance. She’s also a huge music fan! “I rarely miss an opportunity to experience a live concert,” she says. And she’s adventurous: whether it be by exploring new restaurants, theme parks or water parks, she’s there for it all. “For me, this is the perfect way to recharge and find fresh perspectives.”
