As marketing manager: events and projects at Executive Communities, Mahlatse Molekana delivers the content and coordinates the behind-the-scenes productions for the events that bring business leaders together.
Mahlatse says her role incorporates strategy, creativity, and connection. “I create and manage our marketing campaigns and collateral across events, social media, and our website,” she explains. “I also collaborate closely with the Operations team to plan and deliver the impactful events we host for our communities.”
It is this wide variety of responsibilities that she enjoys most about her job. “I get to combine creativity and strategy. Creating campaigns that resonate with our audience while ensuring seamless execution of events and projects.”
She believes that successful engagement and delivery are underpinned by purpose and teamwork. “I also enjoy collaborating with a diverse team to bring ideas to life and deliver experiences that build meaningful connections within our communities,” she adds. “Every project is different, which keeps me learning and inspired!”
Finding her passion
Mahlatse describes herself as “a public relations and media studies graduate with 12 years of experience spanning broadcast media, events and activations, advertising, and corporate social investment.” This diverse background gave her extensive professional insights, and the clarity to define the space in which she’d like to be working.
“I discovered my true passion in marketing,” she says. “It’s a space that allows me to create, share, serve, and most importantly, build and maintain meaningful relationships”.
The art of balance
A key challenge in Mahlatse’s role is shifting between high-level production work and the hands-on demands of event days. “For me, the key to balancing production work and being hands-on at events is planning. As a project manager, planning is always at the forefront, as it allows me to clearly define deliverables and map out how they will be executed”.
This ensures a smooth transition from concept to reality. She credits her success on event days to clear systems “With the support of my team and thorough briefings for suppliers, I can ensure everyone knows their role on the ground. Ultimately, it comes down to solid planning, effective delegation, and building strong relationships that make execution seamless”.
An ambitious future
With a clear passion for her field, Mahlatse has ambitious goals for her career. “Looking ahead, my dream is to grow into a chief marketing officer role where I can lead a team and oversee marketing and advertising strategies that drive business growth,” she says.
Beyond the corporate ladder, she also has entrepreneurial ambitions. “I also have a vision of starting my own marketing consulting agency one day,” she says. “I hope to use my experience to help brands craft impactful campaigns and build strong connections with their audiences.”
When she steps away from her professional duties, Mahlatse turns to a simple pleasure to decompress. How does she relax? “I listen to music, I am a music lover! It helps me relax and unwind!”
